The suit story

The suit is still the most elegant object of the men's clothes. The good suit accentuated the formality and the business traits of the owner being favourable for his success.

The beginning of the business style starts when the crusaders started to wear the eastern caftan that is the man's long outer garment.

By the epoch of Louis XIV the long man's caftan became the fashionable suit of the noble people. It didn't have the collar and had the short sleeves. In the middle of 17th century the long frock-coat entered the fashion world that became the double-breasted in the 18th century.

In the middle of 19th century the notion of the business suit from the clerk to the owner of the bank was formed in England. By 1820s the every-day jacket of men was the tailcoat that was substituted by the frock-coat. From 1850s the coloured tailcoats stopped to be worn and in a few years it took the black colour that is unchanged till nowadays.

Then the men's clothes were divided into three types depending on the occasion why man put his clothes. The holiday suit was the tailcoat, the every-day suit was the frock-coat and the suit for the official occasions was the black frock-coat. By 70s of 19th century the frock-coat turned into the business clothes and the three-piece suits made of one fabric became very popular. The two-piece suit that consisted of the trousers and the jacket were called the frock-coat pair.
