The dinner jacket story

The formal evening men's suit known as the dinner jacket is destined for the official occasions and holiday's celebrations. It is very difficult to choose the good dinner jacket for men.

The history of the dinner jacket as the form of the evening dinner jacket is very confusing. It is known that in 1865 the famous English tailor made the first dinner jacket for the Prince of Wales the evidence of which is the note made in the book of orders. It looked like the short jacket that the prince put on with the silk black bow tie. Such suit was the usual official uniform of the officers of the British Navy destined for balls. But Prince of Wales was the first non-military person who put it on. The new cut was appreciated by the gentlemen of that time and was worn by them as the special clothes of the special people.

In America this jacket appeared thanks to the American guy James Brown Potter. In summer of 1886 Potter came to England and was introduced to the Prince of Wales during the ball in the Royal palace. And prince explained to the Potter what the fashion of England was.

The dinner jacket spread among Americans very quickly and soon it was the usual jacket of rich people in America until one of them appeared in it during the golf club party in Tuxedo park in New York. After such advertisement the fashionable people of the whole world were impressed and the dinner jacket was recognised as the base for any men's suit. This jacket is very complicated to sew as it usually consists of seven parts in minimum.
